Controversies[]

Natalia Kills[]

The singer first attracted criticism during the last round of auditions while giving feedback to busker Sally Faherty as she used strong language, including profanity, to admonish audience members. This caused several audience members to leave the arena and both TV3 and Kills apologised for the incident and when the episode was aired the profanity was bleeped out.

Kills attracted more criticism along with her husband Willy Moon during the first live show when both bullied and humiliated contestant Joe Irvine over his appearance, calling him a "copycat" and "a laughing stock". This lead to several complaints from viewers and a petition was set up to have both Kills and Moon fired from the show. They were dismissed the following day and were replaced by Natalie Bassingthwaighte and New Zealand-born drummer Shelton Woolright respectively.
