The X Factor: Battle of the Stars was a celebrity edition of The X Factor UK, which aired over eight nights from 29 May to 5 June 2006 between Series 2 and Series 3. It was aired in place of Pop Idol which had been cancelled to make way for The X Factor.

Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne returned as judges for spin off series with Kate Thornton returning as host.

Twists/Changes[]
Auditions: The auditions were axed from the series and wasn’t replaced by anything. This is the only series to date which did not feature the auditions.
Bootcamp: Bootcamp was also axed and was not replaced. It was the only series to not feature bootcamp until series 15.
Judges Houses: The Judges Houses round was also axed. This was the only series to not include the Judges Houses round until The X Factor: Celebrity.
Live Shows: The Live Shows was the only round that was featured in the series. It lasted for 8 days instead of the usual weeks.

Axing & Revival[]
On August 26, 2006, it was reported that the show had been axed with Simon Cowell labelling it "pointless". However in November 2018, he mentioned in an interview that he was considering reviving it as a charity special due to the main show's declining viewership.
