One Direction were a five-member English-Irish male pop group consisting of members Niall Horan (born 13 September 1993), Zayn Malik (born 12 January 1993), Liam Payne (born 29 August 1993- died 16 October 2024), Harry Styles (born 1 February 1994), and Louis Tomlinson (born 24 December 1991).

Initially rejected at bootcamp as soloists in Series 7 of The X Factor UK, they were put together as a group and were mentored by S!mon Cowell. Due to the eliminations of F.Y.D., Diva Fever, and Belle Amie, One Direction were the only act left in their category. They finished in 3rd place behind runner-up Rebecca Ferguson and winner Matt Cardle.
