Trivia[]

  • Out of the main X Factor UK judges who appeared for more than one series, Gary is the only returning judge to never have a winning act while judges like Rita Ora and Louis Tomlinson both appeared in only one series and won their only respective series. In his first year, his highest placing act was Marcus Collins, who finished runner-up to Little Mix.
  • In his second year, all of his acts were eliminated by the public vote but the first three acts from his category were eliminated via deadlock.
    • On this note, every time one of his acts were in the bottom two, the result went to deadlock with each of his fellow judges sending the result to deadlock at least once, Louis Walsh in Week 1, Nicole Scherzinger in Week 2, and Tulisa in Weeks 3 and 5.
    • His acts only competed against an act from the Boys or Groups category in the Final Showdown.
  • Just like Cheryl, in all of the series Gary was a judge, all of his highest-placing acts were able to advanced at least to the semi-final in their respective series, though Gary would have lost his final act, Rough Copy in Week 7 rather than the semi-final if the result went to deadlock in Week 7 in 2013 and Cheryl would have had her highest-placing act, Lauren Platt advance to the final in 2014 if the result went to deadlock in the 2014 semi-final.
