Adam Lambert (born 29 January 1982) is an American pop-rock singer who rose to fame after finishing as runner up on the eighth season of American Idol in 2009. Many music critics have called his defeat one of the biggest shocks in the show's history and speculated that the fact he is gay may have been the reason for his loss.
Since 2009 he has sold over three million albums and over five million singles worldwide and is also the first openly gay artist to have a US #1 album. Since 2011, he has collaborated with Brian May and Roger Taylor of the British rock band Queen, which saw them embark on a world tour from 2014 to 2016.
He joined the judging panel for Season 8 of The X Factor Australia where he mentored the Under 22s category. His last remaining act Isaiah Firebrace won the competition on his 17th birthday.
In December 2016, he joined Series 13 finalist and eventual runner up Saara Aalto onstage to perform a duet of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody". He later said that he would love to collaborate with her in the future.
In 2018, he assisted Simon Cowell during Judges' Houses for Series 15 of The X Factor.
